Modern terrestrial networks often use various technologies such as IP and ASI for distribution transport from HeadEnd to transmit sites and precise GPS synchronized transmit timing to be able to utilize a single frequency between transmitters.
The ability to monitor both on the RF side and the IP based transport, often with T2MI encapsulated signals, becomes important. A modern system must be able to have all the various interfaces used in a site, such as; IP Ethernet, legacy ASI input and COFDM T2 RF inputs.
