|NEWS/The VB10 Portable IP Probe released
(AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - September 10th, 2004)
The VB10 IP PROBE from BRIDGE Technologies is a cost-effective, portable measuring unit ideal for inspecting TV multicasts found in fibre or DSL triple-play networks. The VB10 operator can easily characterise the signal quality of up to 10 TV multicasts simultaneously, and from anywhere in the network ranging from TV head-end through to customer set-top box.
At the 2004 International Broadcasters Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam, BRIDGE Technologies released VB10, a ruggedized and portable IP Probe for monitoring of DVBoIP (DVB over IP) datagrams and transport streams. The VB10 IP PROBE is capable of analysing up to 10 IP multicasts simultaneously with critical quality parameters, such as jitter and packet loss, detected and logged automatically.
The VB10 IP PROBE sports a built-in 3-port Ethernet switch and internal AC power supply. An integrated, hardware-based, MPEG-2 decoder enables the operator to visually inspect a selected TV channel by decoding it back to composite video / stereo audio.
Each VB10 IP PROBE runs an HTTP server. The operator access is through a web browser pointed towards the VB10 IP address. Basic setup can be performed locally through RS232 or remotely via TELNET. Central management and alarm/statistics collection is achieved by optionally deploying the CBC Server software.
The VB10 IP PROBE is cost-effective and easy to use. This makes the PROBE particularly suitable for being connected and left overnight at the customer premises for non-intrusive problem logging and capture in triple-play fibre and DSL networks. This proactive approach to problem solving identifies the issue faster and reassures the customer.
"Understanding and pinpointing faults in a complex environment, i.e. a large IP based network with multiple high bitrate multicasts, has always been a challenge;" says company CEO and co-founder Rolf Ollmar. "Using the portable VB10 PROBE, you can do remote analysis and gather statistics without expert knowledge of IP technology".
Product is ready for pre-order, and ships in October, 2004
